Overview
CoolPeel is a controlled CO2 laser treatment that removes a precise, thin layer of damaged skin while stimulating collagen production beneath the surface. It delivers the benefits of traditional CO2 resurfacing with significantly less downtime, making it suited to patients who want visible improvement without extended recovery.
What's going on beneath the skin
The outer layer of your skin carries the evidence of years of sun exposure, environmental stress, and the natural slowing of cell turnover. Fine lines settle in, pigmentation becomes uneven, and texture loses its smoothness. These are surface-level changes, but they need more than a surface-level response.
CoolPeel uses short, precisely controlled pulses of CO2 laser energy to remove that damaged outer layer without the thermal damage that traditional CO2 lasers cause to surrounding tissue. As the skin heals, fresh cells replace the old ones and collagen production increases in the deeper layers. The result builds over weeks rather than days, because the real work is happening underneath.
Daily & Ongoing Care
At-home care:
- SPF 30 or higher daily. The new skin is particularly sensitive to UV damage in the weeks after treatment.
- Keep the skin consistently moisturised to reduce the dry, scaly sensation as it heals
- Avoid retinoids and exfoliating acids for at least 1 week post-treatment
- Avoid direct sun, saunas, and strenuous exercise for the first week
- Do not pick or force peeling skin. Let it shed on its own.
Before treatment:
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 4 to 6 weeks before treatment
- Stop retinoids and exfoliating acids 1 week before your appointment
- Arrive with clean, product-free skin
- If you have a history of cold sores, discuss antiviral medication with your provider beforehand

What to expect
During treatment
A topical numbing cream is applied beforehand. The laser handpiece is moved across the treatment area in a precise pattern. Most patients feel a mild warmth or occasional brief zing. Sessions run 30 to 45 minutes. Unlike traditional CO2, there is no oozing or open wound after treatment.
After treatment
Immediately after, your skin will feel like a mild sunburn. Redness and slight swelling are normal for the first 1 to 2 days. On days 3 to 5, the skin feels dry and slightly scaly as the old layer sheds. Keep it well moisturised and let it shed naturally. Makeup is generally possible within 24 to 48 hours.
Results timeline
Fresh skin is visible within a week once healing is complete. Tone, texture, and brightness improve noticeably at this stage. Collagen production continues building beneath the surface for up to 3 months, with further gradual improvement in firmness and overall skin quality.
